Basalt, or Lava Stone, is a volcanic rock, formed when molten lava, created within the earth, solidifies quickly under heat & pressure. Its properties are known to contain the energy of its origins … a power, spark, raw energy & infinite wisdom gained from the earth & its transformations over millions of years. Basalt is considered to be a stone of rebirth & is known for sparking creative energy, enabling one to better express ideas & dreams. Reinforcing one's connection to the Earth, basalt is known for its grounding qualities, evoking emotional tranquility, relaxation & a sense of calmness. It is said to be an effective mood stabilizer, promoting positive behavioural change & releasing attachment. It provides guidance, strength, courage, stability & understanding through times of change. Lava Stone is often used as an essential oil diffuser, allowing one to benefit therapeutically from both the stone & the essential oil properties.

Each individual component of each art piece is made by transforming natural, reclaimed, vintage, upcycled, found, organic & fair trade materials. Being fully involved in the process, is a fundamental element in all my work, from individually hand forging components, to salvaging discarded items, to sustainably hand collecting raw materials to incorporate into pieces.
